Installation Views of the Fourth Floor
Interactive elements highlighting the production process of Sèvres porcelain, from biscuit and moldmaking to burnishing gold embellishment. I assisted the BGC preparators with the installation of this floor by applying photo wall text and mounting the objects to the table. Visitors were encouraged to touch the brushes and molds to gain a deeper understanding of each step.
Wall Text and Catalog Essay
In the fall of 2023, I took a class on the history of Sèvres from its foundation in Vincennes up to the artist residencies taking place today. I centered my research in this class on artwork by contemporary artist Kristin McKirdy and its reflection of historical eighteenth century Sèvres tableware alongside Saint Porchaire tazza. Alongside the essay on McKirdy, I authored the wall text for Jim Dine's Surtout
American artist Jim Dine (b. 1935) is best known for his graphic illustrations and bold use of color, However, for this centerpiece he decided to highlight the pure whiteness of hard-paste porcelain and explore the figurative and non-figurative forms. Created during Dine's residency at the Sèvres Manufactory in the late 1990's, the centerpiece combines narrow Alençon vases, inspired by models from the manufactory's repertoire, with monkey- and cat-head lids, evoking Egyptian canopic jars.
